I never played D&D before, but I always wanted to sit in a game.

I mean, there was that time when my local video gqame shop had RP club sessions in the basement and I awkwardly asked to sit in with these entirely new people, We've had fun, this fun zombie survival game. We become more aquaintances than friends though and only had a few sessions before they relocated elsewhere.

IRL I only have the one friend and he's not the tabletop sort.

I've got 4th edition DnD such as the Game Master Manual, Player Handbook, and Monster Manual. No campaigns though but I generally know how to play.

From said brief time with hanging with that RP group, they presented me with about three books to learn how to play DnD.
I hate to be an @$$ on TTRPs but I wouldn't call it light reading just to play a game.

I don't mind reading wiki articles though. (I wish there was a better English TDE wiki out there.)

TBH I as a GM wouldn't require you to know every rule in DnD or this TDE either, just the bare minimum while I do all the math and technicalities. May skip a rule or two if it makes things easier and nobody notices.

It shouldn't be too hard really, just make sure unicorns can only get the spell casting classes (Wizard, Cleric, Warlock, etc). After that and a change here and there with the lore and things are a go.
