Probably Vice city cause it took place in the 80s and had that very particular 80s neon look to everything. And it was the first one I remember with a protagonist with dialogue and it was also genuinely funny satire

>>1199410You played vice City stories? Set two years before Vice City in 1984. Has even more neons and bright suits. Pretty decent
Sadly hard to emulate and it's only on PSP and PS2, never did get a PC port or anything else for that matter

I only really liked Vice City, because of the 80s setting... and especially the music.

>>1199468You never even got to hear the theme of Liberty City stories?
I'm so sorry. Thats in Liberty City and is set in 1998 so set 3 years before the events of GTA3. You play as Toni Cipriani as he works his way up the ladder and ranks of the Leone Crime Family. You might remember that name as funnily enough he in GTA3 as you do missions for him in GTA3 but yeah he's the protagonist of Liberty City stories
>>1199470Vice City was released in 2002 and was set in 1986. That's a gap of 16 years, as I said Vice City was set 16 years before it's release.
If you made a GTA game right now and set it 16 years ago it would be set in 2009, so pretty much GTA4.
Kind crazy

>>1199472I had GTA4... didn't like it one bit.
Couldn't go from A to B witout a bunch of people calling and wanting to do shit, then getting pissed when I didn't want to.
Just let me do my bloody quests!

>>1199481>>1199481So basically:
But to actually answer the thread, GTA has never really been for me. I am just not that interested in playing a hood in a modern city when I play video games. Though I can definitely appreciate the impressive open world aspects of the franchise

>>1199481Whats funny is there is an option in your phone in GTA4 that disables you getting phone calls from others
Your issue was entirely avoidable. While hanging out was a little lame I did like the conversations you would have with the chatecters when you hung out. There's a lot of character backstories and world building that's easy to miss
Or you could get them drunk and have them trauma dump on you

Enjoy playing FF XV and getting enemy troops getting dropped all over your quest locations every 5 minutes.
>>1199409Me, I haven't really played GTA all that much. My ex had GTA San Andreas on PS2 and loved roaming around creating chaos with a cheat sheet she kept with the game.
I currently have GTA V that I got for my daughter and she doesn't really play that just filled up all disc space on my PS4.
I did play Midtown Madness free roaming for a while. That was kinda GTA-esque I suppose.

>>1199500You can also say no when they phone you up. The game like, has a yes and no option when they phone you. You don't loose any respect or anything with them if you say no either. Always remember; If your cousin wants to take you bowling he can't do it without your consent
Packie was fun to get drunk.Well other than the times he told you about how his dad beat him, his brothers and his mother and molested him
But he also drunkingly sings oh danny boy to you,so you know the good and the bad

Michelle. You get to date her early on as you get introduced to her during a mission. You take her out and she never gets drunk, avoids questions about herself and keeps asking you about crime and if you or your friends and family are involved. Oh, and everything in her apartment is brand new.
... Turns out she is CIA/IAA and was spying on Niko all along
